This smartphone app will easily log your personalized data wherever you are.  The insights and reports will show trends which could help you discover new avenues of treatment.

Yes, always consult a medical professional before making drastic changes to your diet and lifestyle. Everyone’s experience with a single inflammatory bowel disease is different so it’s important to know your own body and really listen to how it responds to medications, stresses and diet.  It’s also vital to communicate the volumes of information to your medical professional in an efficient way.  This app uses your data from your life experiences living with your condition to gain insights relevant to your healing regimen.  The reports function analyzes your data in complex ways unavailable to a medical professional during a brief office visit.   Take your data and at-a-glance reports to them to stimulate a more meaningful discussion about your overall treatment plan.

The myColitis application will import two formats tab delineated txt files or JSON files.  The scenarios below import new bowel movements into the application from a text file which can be edited in excel or other spreadsheet softwares.  Below are a few steps to help guide you through importing data in several scenarios;

Scenario 1 – You have no data entered into the myColitis application.

  • (1) Download this example file to edit.  Make sure to delete all example data or it will import into the application.
  • (2) You can then modify this txt file in excel or any other spreadsheet program, it is import that the columns stay in the order exported.
    • You will need to delete all previous entries in the txt file before re-importing or you will get duplicates in the myColitis application.  MyColitis does not override previous entries, but adds new ones when importing a text file.
    • Some columns require specific values ie the type column and pain columns.  These values are the same as when entering via a form.  Columns like the comments column you can enter any values.
    • Once modified save as a tab delineated txt file to re-import in myColitis.
  • (3) Go to Settings – Import Data – Excel File – Press Select File – Select Event type “Bowel Movements” – Press Import.  This will import the new entries into myColitis.

Scenario 2 – You have been using the myColitis application and already have entries recorded.

  • (1) Go to Settings – Export Data – With Application Back-Up selected press export and save the file. This will create a backup file of all your data in case something happens.
  • (2) Download this example file to edit.  Make sure to delete all example data or it will import into the application.
  • (3) You can then modify this txt file in excel, it is import that the columns stay in the order exported.
    • You will need to delete all previous entries in the txt file before re-importing or you will get duplicates in the myColitis application.  MyColitis does not override previous entries, but adds new ones when importing a text file.  JSON files will overwrite all data.

Very important, however, the answer varies depending on who you consult.  Track your own vital statistics, and in conjunction with your medical professional, figure out the best course of action to achieve better health.

The application was original started as a diary to help my wife quantify the disease and track the progress she made with adjustments to diet or medications.

One you have started entering data the bowel movement graph in the application will show a trend line for any date range.

By default it will show the last 30 days, by selecting the custom tab you can see all the data entered or a specific range.

The start of the graph below, is where a SCD diet was introduced.  You can see the trend line for pain and discomfort moving down over the course of 6 months.

As time went on she opted for a new medication.  The sharp drop-off  was after a new medication was introduced, and has been working wonderfully since.

Yes.  In settings, you can create a back-up of your data and also export a tab delineated text file to use in Excel or other spreadsheet software.  You can also create a manual backup of the data into the application when transferring devices.
